bullet  General Notes:

John Starie was brought up by Sarah and John Jones on Batch (bache) Farm, Coreley.
He shows up with them on the census in 1851 and not with his parents on the census of 1841 and 1851.

bullet  Research Notes:

Chris Clark (GenesReunited):
Humphrey Parsons does come into the Starie Family as he was married to Hannah Starie eldest daughter of Josiah and Dorothea and sister to Margaret ( Bridgman). As far as I can tell the family estate was left to these two sisters and subsequently entailed to, John, the eldest son of Joseph Haydon Starie. As John seems to have been a fairly unpleasant charcter, described somewhere as a miser, and had no children the estate was then left to John William Starie in 1928. He was the third, and oldest surviving son, of William S. and Mary Ann Dowdney Dicker. I think he sold the estate and never actually lived or worked the estate.

Robert Sterry (sterryworldwide.com):
I'm not sure if you've ever come across these particular newspaper references where in 1876 John Starey was named in a bastardy order. I couldn't find whether the appeal of John Starey was successful but this report certainly suggests that your ancestor, Ann Handley, was perhaps not the only young servant girl who succumbed to John Starey's charms.

Mr. J. Starey, of the Hem Farm, Coreley. Complainant, who is 17 years of age, had lived with defendant, who is married and an independent minister, a servant from June, 1874, to May 1875.
[Worcester Journal 4 Mar 1876]

John Starey, farmer and local preacher, of The Hem, near Cleobury Mortimer, appealed against a bastardy order made by the magistrates at Cleobury Mortimer. Mr. Warren appeared for the appellant, and Mr. Redman for the respondent.
[Worcestershire Chronicle 25 Mar 1876]

John Starey, appellant, Elizabeth Ann Woodhouse, respondent, was heard at the Shropshire Sessions on Tuesday. This was an appeal against an order of affiliation of 5s. per week made by the magistrates sitting in petty sessions at Cleobury Mortimer. [Worcester Journal 25 Mar 1876]

Were you able to track down the baptism record of Joseph Stary Handley? Baptism records of course often include comments by the minister in the case of single mothers, including at times the name of the reputed father.

Parish Councils of course were always very keen to determine the natural father as well so that the cost of bringing up the child didn't fall on the public purse. There may well have been a bastardy order brought against John Starey in the case of Joseph Starey Handley as well.
